Mind the gap - working as a consultant and academic in an Australian context.

Mind the gap. Working as a consultant and academic in an Australian context.

In this presentation, I’ll talk about my experience of working as an academic and a research consultant. I will try to highlight both the advantages, disadvantages and challenges that come from working at the interface between research, policy and practice. I’d argue that one of the key opportunities in this area is to facilitate processes that foster mutual learning among research, policy and practice, but in order to do that, often a translational gap needs to be addressed.

Previously a full-time academic in the Research School of Psychology at the ANU, Dr. Van Rooy now pursues research and applications in several arenas, including ThinkPlace and the Policy Experiment Lab at the ANU.
