Cecil Gibb Research Seminar Series: Fresh Faces and Ideas in Social Psychology

A panel of emerging leaders in psychology present research on pressing social issues. Dr Stanley examines the role of ideological attitudes in acceptance and action on climate change, and will present some of her recent work on attitudes towards climate refugee policy within New Zealand. Dr Leviston applies social and environmental psychology to investigate how individuals, groups, and culture shape responses to social and environmental challenges, and will talk about work on the role of social perception and comparison in relation to climate change. Dr Orazani examines collective action, turning his focus from psychological to sociological social psychology, and will be discussing his newly accepted paper entitled "Perceived normalization of radical ideologies and its effect on political tolerance and support for freedom of speech". Dr Evans’ research examines the relationship between social class, social integration, and mental health, and will be discussing her forthcoming ARC project investigating online strategies for improving the social connectedness of low SES university students.
