ANU announces new Minor in Business Psychology

Tuesday 31 January 2017

The ANU Research School of Management, in partnership with the ANU Research School of Psychology, is now offering students a minor in Business Psychology.

Commencing in 2017, the program will cover key areas at the intersection of business, management and psychology.

Business Psychology as a specialisation is becoming increasingly important in preparing students for roles in teams, organisations, management and leadership.

Deputy Director Education for the ANU Research School of Management, Dr Andrew Bradly, says that the minor in Business Psychology represents an important collaboration between the two schools.

“The specialisation offers students an excellent opportunity to gain knowledge and skills in the increasingly important field of organisational psychology, and draws on the expertise that both research schools offer.”

Through the minor, students will cover all the key areas at the intersection of business, management and psychology. Focuses include evidence-based management, social psychology, examining the impact of others on individual and organisational behaviour, assessment, selection, performance and training, and the social psychology of organisations.

“The courses incorporate significant research being undertaken within ANU on the specific challenges facing individuals and organisations in relation to business psychology,” says Dr Bradly.

Professor Michael Kyrios, Director of the Research School of Psychology, agrees the new minor in Business Psychology is exciting and an important first step in better harnessing the talent at ANU in these areas.

“Students will benefit greatly from combining knowledge across business and psychology in particular in the areas of leadership, team work, resilience and stress, and wellbeing where staff and graduate students at ANU have been focusing attention,” Professor Kyrios says.

“The top priority for emerging business leaders is knowing how to build healthy workplaces where people can thrive and flourish which will bring productivity and growth,” says Professor Kyrios.

The ANU minor in business psychology will provide students with the foundations in management and psychology necessary to be successful leaders of tomorrow.
