Research and Supervision Interests

Broadly speaking I am interested in clinical child and family psychology as well as school psychology, psychological therapy, parent training, psychological assessment and program evaluation. Also

  • children's self-concept,
  • dimensions and taxonomy of child psychopathology,
  • conduct and anxiety disorders in children and adolescents,
  • parenting and parent training,
  • learning with ADHD, teaching children with ADHD,
  • adolescent drinking,
  • media use,
  • coupling and couple education
  • children, mothers and fathers in and after divorce

Well over thirty of my past research students have successfully submitted their theses before these current students. Their topics included, amongst others,

  • responsibility judgements in a case of incest,
  • recidivism of sexual offenders in England,
  • parenting experiences of mothers and fathers,
  • the effect of Outward Bound high school programs,
  • social support from parents and close friends,
  • young children's memory and suggestibility,
  • self-concepts in young children,
  • bullying and victimisation,
  • responses to unemployment amongst young people,
  • school stress and engagement, and
  • drinking motives.
Qualifications

  • Dipl. Psych. (Kiel), PhD (ANU)
  • Trained in child play therapy, client-centered therapy, behaviour therapy, problem-solving therapy, and various family therapy approaches
  • Member of the BdP (German Professional Psychologists Association), no longer current
  • Member of the APS (Australian Psychological Association, Clinical College)
  • Registered Psychologist in the ACT
